Degrees vs. Radians

Most wrong trig answers aren't math errors — they're mode errors. Degree mode treats a full circle as 360°; radian mode treats it as 2π. If the calculator's set to radians and you're thinking in degrees (or the other way around), you'll get a technically correct answer to a question you didn't mean to ask. Check the mode before a trig-heavy problem set.

Common Mistake: Degree/Radian Mix-Up, With Real Numbers

sin(30) means two very different things depending on mode. In Degree mode, sin(30) = 0.5 — the clean value most students expect. In Radian mode, that exact same input, sin(30), comes out to roughly −0.988, because 30 radians is nearly five full rotations past zero.

Neither answer is wrong — the calculator did exactly what you told it to do. If your result doesn't match what your textbook or teacher expects, checking the angle mode is the fastest first move, before you start hunting for an algebra mistake that probably isn't there.
